But when legitimate organizations provide stability to families, access to medical care, and education for children, the temptation to leave that support and stability is much lower and families are less likely to fall prey to the lies of traffickers. An estimated 60,000 children in rural northern Thailand are targeted and exploited for sex work every year, but one focused organization, The Freedom Story<\/a>, provides scholarships so the most at-risk children can attend school, participate in a weekly mentorship program, attend classes at a Resource Center, and learn about their rights. And they are seeing great success. Children living in vulnerable places who graduate from school and go on to become leaders in their communities are reported above ninety percent when they have support from these kinds of organizations versus less than half for those who do not receive such support.<\/p>\n Awareness campaigns over social media and local counter-trafficking events are also vital to educating the global public about the realities and risks of human trafficking.
