We never exaggerate. Ever. When a mission fails, we won’t tell donors that it succeeded. If we rescue two girls in a raid, we won’t report that we saved 11. We refuse to communicate sensationally to raise funding. We only report on missions on our website and “claim” a rescue when The Exodus Road had a direct hand in the success of it– whether through staffing, funding, equipment provision, or direct support. Our goal is to give accurate, honest reporting and to paint clear pictures for donors and supporters of both our efforts and the realities of intervention work– oftentimes which do not include “Hollywood” endings.

We are also very transparent about our statistics and terminology. Please check out this page for details on the term “rescue” and descriptions of how we measure our progress.

We abide by the basic guidelines of UNICEF for reporting on minors. We never reveal real names or faces of any underage victim or child online or in print, unless express permission is given by a parent or guardian. We maintain the dignity and rights of the child or victim at all times, to the best of our ability. While we do report stories from the field, we do not overdramatize details of a cause or mission, and we seek to maintain a victim-centered approach, both in the case itself and in the reporting of it. While we do conduct interviews with adult victims, we expressly ask permission and often pay women for rights to the interview itself. Again, we will not publish faces, minors or adults, of any trafficking victim or potential victim. Our goal is to communicate the stories of victims, in an effort to paint realistic pictures of slavery, but this goal is trumped by the protection and respect for the individuals involved.

The safety of our teams and the success of current missions is paramount. Because of this, it is important for readers and supporters to know that our communications, while all true in detail, may be altered in the following manners:

• Names changed
• Places/Locations altered, especially while the case is active
• “Current” intel may be greater than two days old in actuality
• Photos/Videos blurred, edited, to conceal identity or location

It is vital that followers understand that the safety of our field teams is of utmost importance. We will not reveal identities of our investigators or staff without permission and with due cause in specific situations. Photos of investigative staff will not be published, or will be greatly altered, to conceal identities.

We welcome your comments if you are 13 or older, and expect that our discussions here will be polite and helpful. You are responsible for the content of your comments.

The Exodus Road does not discriminate against any point of view, but may delete any of the following:

• violent, obscene, profane, hateful, or racist comments
• comments that threaten or harm the reputation of any person or organization

The Exodus Road is a registered 501(c)(3) non profit organization. All donations in the United States are tax-deductible in full or part. You can view our past financial records and independent audits by visiting our Financials Page. 

While The Exodus Road tries to honor all designations on giving, The Exodus Road maintains full control of donated funds and the discretion of their use. Per Executive Board policy, the organization is able to take up to 20% of donated funds to help cover administrative expenses associated with the distribution of funds. The Exodus Road will not share or sell a donor’s personal information with anyone else nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations.

Each year, The Exodus Road submits itself to an annual third party financial audit. This audit ensures fiscal accountability and transparency and the report is made public online every year.

Because of it’s excellence in financial transparency, The Exodus Road has maintained Platinum Level Membership with Guidestar.

We understand privacy is important and we work hard to protect yours. We do collect personal information when you voluntarily submit it to us, both offline and online. For example, donors may provide us with personal information (such as name, address, email address, telephone numbers and/or credit/debit card information). Providing data is required in these contexts in order for us to process your donations, requests, or respond to inquiries.

Any information transmitted to us may be stored, accessed, or processed in the United States. We collect information primarily to accept donations, complete our charitable work, and provide you with information concerning our programs and activities. We also use information for analytical purposes, to improve our website, our donor base, our outreach, or to respond to requests for information.

We do not trade, share, or sell information that you provide to us with other organizations who intend to use it only to market their products or services to you.

There may be unique instances in which we share your information with others. We may share your information, for example, as required by law, with law enforcement, to comply with legal process, to protect our legal rights, to protect the safety or security of a person, or to protect against fraud, criminal acts, or misconduct. The Exodus Road follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and a part of hosting services’ analytics. The information collected by log files includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users’ movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.

Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity.

If you think that your child provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately and we will do our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.
